Planning a Dressing Room: What to Consider
From measurements to lighting, the key points to consider when planning a dressing room — with visuals from our dressing room projects.

A dressing room brings clothes, shoes and accessories together in one orderly space and makes getting ready easier. A good dressing room is planned around the dimensions of the space and the habits of the person who will use it. Below we have put together the points to consider during planning, with visuals from our dressing room projects.
Measurements and layout
Planning starts with the wall lengths, the ceiling height and the position of fixed points such as doors, windows and sockets. Leave enough clearance in front of the cabinets to move comfortably and open the doors. Cabinets that reach the ceiling let you use the upper sections for seasonal items.
Hanging space, shelves and drawers
Set aside full-length hanging for long dresses and coats, short hanging for shirts and jackets, shelves for folded clothes and drawers for small items. If the proportions are based on a rough list of what will go into the cabinets, no space is wasted.

Shoes and accessories
Separate shelves for shoes and drawers with dividers for bags, belts, watches and jewellery keep a dressing room tidy. Placing everyday pieces at eye level and less frequently used ones in the upper and lower sections makes daily use easier.
Lighting, mirror and seating
In addition to general lighting, lights inside the cabinets help you see colours accurately. A full-length mirror and a pouf or bench to sit on while dressing make a dressing room truly practical.

Matching materials and colours
A dressing room is often used together with the bedroom. When cabinet bodies, doors and handles are chosen to match the bedroom furniture, the two spaces read as one. Alongside a dressing room, you may also like to browse our wardrobes, chests of drawers and dressing tables.
